The Beginnings of Vaccination

So, where did it all begin? It might not seem like it, but the practice of immunization can be traced back thousands of years. One of the earliest inoculations was done by Edward Jenner (considered to be the founder of vaccinology) in 1786. He demonstrated the first version of what would become the vaccine for smallpox, leading to its eventual eradication in 1978.

Through different methods, vaccines for once debilitating illnesses such polio, tetanus, and more. Just like with smallpox, the mass vaccination for Polio has eradicated the disease from many regions across the world.

With advancements in genetics and virology, the future of vaccinology is bright. With the COVID still being a problem, continuous research has gone done to create a vaccine that can fight against it.
